Bookcover for ‘Zetelkat’, couch cat. Written by Josse De Pauw, published by De Eenhoorn.
‘ZETELKAT’ WAS ORIGINALLY A THEATER PERFORMANCE BY JOSSE DE PAUW THAT WAS NOW CAST IN BOOK FORM. IT IS A STORY ABOUT THE POWER AND IMPOTENCE OF IMAGINATION. IT IS A SEARCH FOR A BALANCE BETWEEN REAL LIFE AND STORIES. THIS IS ABOUT KEEPING THE WAR OUT BY HAVING FUN ADVENTURES IN OUR HEADS. IN THIS PHILOSOPHICAL BOOK WE BECOME ACQUAINTED WITH POP, EXPERIENCING LIFE IN REAL LIFE, NO MATTER HOW HARD IT MAY BE. ON THE OTHER HAND, THERE IS KAT WHO LIKES TO TELL STORIES. AND IN BETWEEN THE TWO THERE IS THE CHARACTER DOUBT, WHO STUTTERS AND REMAINS VERY DIFFICULT TO TELL THINGS BUT CAN PLAY THE TRUMPET LIKE NO OTHER. THE BOOK IS NOT INTENDED TO BE A CONTINUOUS STORY. THE THEATER SCRIPT HAS SIMPLY BEEN PUT ON PAPER. IT IS BEAUTIFULLY DESIGNED AND FULL OF FEELING ILLUSTRATED BY TRUI CHIELENS. BECAUSE THESE ILLUSTRATIONS AND THE WITTY THEATER TEXTS SAY MORE THAN YOU CAN JUST TELL, THAT WAS A GOOD CHOICE. IT ALSO MAKES THE BOOK DIFFERENT FROM OTHER BOOKS. WE DON’T REALLY EMPATHIZE WITH THE CHARACTERS, BUT CAN VIVIDLY IMAGINE THE THEATER PERFORMANCE. THE COMBINATION OF ALL THIS WORKS AND KNOWS HOW TO TOUCH THE READER.
